Description
“From ancient times grain has been stored in bulk. The oldest granaries yet found date back to 9500 BC[1] and are located in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A settlements in the Jordan Valley. The first were located in places between other buildings. However beginning around 8500 BC, they were moved inside houses, and by 7500 BC storage occurred in special rooms”.
The granary is a building which was used for storage of grains. Granaries may have had between one and several floors, with upper floor (s) accessible through stairways from inside or outside the building. In the case of multiple-floor buildings, the upper floor would be used for storage of light crops (grains, dried fruits, etc.), whereas, the lower floor would be used for storage of heavier agricultural products and tools.
